Valley Electric Association Utility-Scale Solar Project

  • Date Completed: August 2016
  • Project Location: Pahrump, NV
  • Project Category: Renewable
  • Project Owner: Valley Electric Association

Bombard Renewable Energy, a division of Bombard Electric, LLC, constructed a 17-megawatt community solar power project near Pahrump, Nevada, to supply electricity to the members of Valley Electric Association, a nonprofit, member-owned electric cooperative. Bombard Renewable Energy provided engineering, procurement and construction services for the 54,000 photovoltaic panels that were constructed on the 80-acre site. Bombard also constructed a 2,640-foot, 24.9-kV distribution line.

Bombard Renewable Energy and VEA worked closely with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to protect Mojave Desert tortoises at the project site. Unique design and construction elements are being used to reduce impact on the tortoises. VEA also facilitated and funded research and monitored studies in partnership with government agencies and regional researchers to evaluate solar panel configuration impacts on local vegetation, tortoises and birds.
